This is the Way 100% Grass-fed & Finished Beef Should Taste
At Wholly Cow, we are committed to producing only the highest quality products. Our animals are raised on pastures that are free of chemicals and genetically modified organisms (GMOs). We use a grass-fed and pasture rotation method of raising our cattle, which ensures our cattle are provided with a healthy balance of nutrients. Rotation grazing also benefits the land; the cows aren't on any one area long enough to kill the grass, but leave behind natural fertilizer! Our cattle are never given hormones or antibiotics, and our beef is never fed grain.

Wholly Cow! A Different Way of Ranching
Feel good about where your meat comes from.
We have broken with tradition and do things differently, in the interest of being good stewards of our herd and our land. Check out the details below.
Prioritizing a Happy, Healthy Herd:
We have made the health and happiness of our animals a priority. This has meant breaking from many traditions or "standard" ways of ranching. For example, our cows give birth in April instead of January. January is industry-standard for the convenience of processing. However, April is the time of year nature intended for calving. Calving in January meant having to worry about calves ears freezing off. We didn't want our calves having to suffer through the cold months as tiny newborns. So we realigned our herd's birthing season with what is best for our mamas and babies - being born in the Spring, when it is warmer! Here are a few other things we do to maintain the health of our herd in natural ways:
- We use neem oil to help naturally deter insects and parasites.
- Our cattle are given garlic powder to help control flies.
- They are also given apple cider vinegar to help with healthy digestion.
Sustainable & Regenerative:
Over the last 20 years we have moved away from traditional farming practices, as well. We opt for sustainable, regenerative options. We are the 5th generation to live off this land, and we intend to leave it better than we inherited it. The health of our soil, air, water and surrounding eco-systems are a huge priority for us. Here are just a few of the methods we use:
- No-till method of regenerative farming.
- No GMO's, pesticides, chemicals or synthetic fertilizers are used on our pastures.
- Rotational, open pasture grazing of our cattle. 10,000 acres of it!
- Dry land farming: We don't use irrigation. We rely solely on God to send rain.
- Our bulls are from Pharo Cattle Company, specifically bred to graze on short grasses in dryer climates. This is friendlier to our land by being easier on our native grasses.
- We make other eco-friendly choices, when possible. For example, some of the shipping packaging material we use is made of corn and compostable.
Food-as-Medicine & High-Protein Wellness
Part of the reason we have committed ourselves to raising a fully grass-fed & finished herd is because Michelle, Matt's wife, has three different autoimmune diseases and experienced first-hand the health benefits of eating exclusively grass-fed and finished beef. We go the extra mile to make sure our meat is as healthy as possible. We don't plant any GMO's on our land. We don't use any pesticides, chemicals or synthetic fertilizers on our pastures. Our butchers use vinegar to disinfect each animal post-processing instead of chemicals. Whether you are eating exclusively grass-fed beef as a recommendation from a doctor while you're undergoing cancer treatments or are simply committed to a cleaner lifestyle, we've glad you're here and are honored to be a part of your journey.
"Whole Animal" Utilization & Exotic Cuts
We believe in utilizing every bit of each animal. Check out our dog treats, tallow skincare and exotic cuts. We have gotten creative in an effort to provide our customers with delicious, innovative and healthy products. We make beef bacon. We also offer ground beef with beef liver integrated into the mix to help you get all the health benefits of liver in a format that is easy way to eat and easy to prepare.
Every Box Sold Makes a Difference
Did you know that 80-90% of grass-fed beef sold in the US was raised outside the country? That means only 10-20% of grass-fed beef available to Americans today was raised on American soil. Even labels that read "Product of USA," often contain imported beef that was merely packaged or processed in the U.S.. but is actually from cattle raised in Australia, New Zealand, and South America.
When you buy from us, you are supporting not only an American, family-owned & operated farm, but also our community here in Kansas. You can also feel good about having a positive impact on our environment by purchasing meat that didn't have to be shipped overseas on a huge container ship.

Are there meat subscription boxes that are better than the big companies such as ButcherBox or Good Chop?
“Better” depends on your goals. Some customers prefer alternatives like Wholly Cow Market because they offer:
- Direct-from-ranch sourcing = more trust and transparency.
- 100% grass-fed and finished beef.
- No middlemen or large-scale aggregation, which means no inflated pricing. 100% of what you pay goes directly to Wholly Cow Market, where the cattle were raised.
- Meat raised in the USA! Nothing had to come overseas in container ships or planes.
- Meat that was raised on a farm the prioritizes the health of the land. Sustainability and regenerative farming and ranching are a big priority for Wholly Cow Market.
- Meat from animals whose wellbeing was prioritized. We do things differently at Wholly Cow Market. Our bottom line is not the only thing that matters. We also want our herd to be both happy and healthy.
If your priority is traceability and nutrient-dense beef, smaller farm-based subscriptions may be a better fit.
